I was looking at using the word meme in an article I'm writing - only in passing reference actually, but I thought I'd look at the proper definition before it went to print. To my logic, the word meme fits in the sentence - but could you confirm?
There's a group called the 'Red Hats' - it's ladies aged 50+ who want to grow old disgracefully, and the entire international organisation was inspired by a line in a poem by Jenny Joseph, namely 'When I am an old woman I shall wear purple/With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me'. If I were to call this line a 'motivational meme' for the group, would that be proper use of the word?
