Please quit forwarding me spamaganda.  These are the messages about supporting our troops and loving our nation.  I'm sure you're just trying to be patriotic and show your love for the men and women in our armed services, and that's great.  But I don't need any more messages that start playing God Bless America when you open them.  And I've already seen the open letter from a WWII dad to his son.  Or the column about what's at stake in the war against terror.

All I get are gruesome thong failure photos (thanks Eve!) and friendship chain letters.  Sending a chain letter is not an act of friendship... But sending me kitchy spamaganda - that would be an act of love. Support our ribbons, y'all.

USA IS Great! Propaganda, Errr Freedom Center At Ground Zero Axed

Well, it's time to admit something uncomfortable:  George Pataki (our not-so-beloved New York State Governor) has done something right.  Citing the "controversy" (loud, effective protesting by 9/11 families unhappy with the idea of a propaganda center towering over what consider the final resting place of their loved ones) and a need to get things rolling (yeah, four years later it's still pretty much a big hole), Pataki has killed the ill-conceived "freedom" (sic) center, which early rendering suggested would include some BS about the "liberation" (sic) of Iraq.  Good riddance to bad trash. 

I love the bullshit repellent New York often enjoys.  After bagels and absurdly expensive single-food-item specialty establishments it's one of the best perks the city has to offer.

I've seen a lot of marches on the mall in my 20+ years in Washington, but I've never seen one where 15,000 people arrive between 11am and noon, and are all gone, and everything's cleaned up, two hours later.  Methinks the Freedom March, Patriot Party, or whatever, was a bit of a bust. Clearly Bush didn't get the September 11 war-fest he wanted. And my suspicion is that after Katrina, and all the criticism of every other event the president ran to instead of focusing on Katrina, the White House wrote this thing off.

There's more photos of, ah, nuthin' if you like...  It's very satisfying to see this nakedly contrived photo-op crap fall flat on it's face.  Waves of  propaganda managed to trick the dimmest (or merely jingoistic) among us into believing there was a connection between 9/11 and Iraq.  Maybe now that the MSM has woken up and stopped regurgitating white house poo it's a bit harder to rally around a lie?  I  hope this is the beginning of a pivot in public gullibility... could it be cause for Monday morning optimism?

Defense Contractors
We've all heard about the armed "defense contractors" roaming Iraq. These are people who work for private defense companies (e.g. Halliburton, Bechtel, etc.), armed with state of the art weaponry, and immune from all liability for any acts they commit in Iraq. In essence, these are men who can "privately" (and secretly) kill whomever they wish in Iraq without any oversight or risk of penalty. In the old days, they used to call these people what they really are, as defined in the dictionary-- "mercenaries".

Propaganda Can Be Funny, Even When Scary and True

The left does propaganda better.  We tell the truth more often and have a sense of humor.  Like Extreme Makeover: Supreme Court Edition.  NARAL's mixed chilling realities of our country's current anti-sex track with some funny.  At least I hope you think sharing a bed with the supreme court is funny.  No judging, of course, but that would be a kind of gross turn on.

To paraphrase he said "groups like Osama Bin Ladin's hate the US for our actions in the Middle East." OK that seems like common sense. He added "but our governments keep lying to us telling us that they hate our way of life."

The government doesn't want to stand up and admit that their actions have repercussions. That over the past X number of years the US has been bumbling around the issues in the Middle East and pissed a lot of people off. Much better to spin it for the American people in a way that makes it a personal attack on their core beliefs. This makes people more angry. 'Yeah the people in the Middle East are opposed to freedom. Those bastards, they deserve to be invaded and occupied.'

Don't want people to start thinking these things...

-U.S. government supports Israel and is indifferent to the Palestinians
-U.S. and western troops on the Arabian Peninsula
-U.S. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan
-U.S. support of countries that oppress Muslims such as Russia, India and China
