Memo to Ford: When 50+% of the The Car Connection, a mainstream gearhead site, poll that you're doing the wrong thing, well, it's time to fire someone. Not only is is more likely that you'd make more cash from marketing to famously spendy gays (you're missing out on $610 Billion according to BrandWeek) than tacky faith-based consumers, but it's becoming clear that cowing to homophobia has pissed off the middle American car guys in your core demographic. Sucks for you to underestimate our country, but happy news for queers (car guys like us... or at least don't hate us with foaming mouths)
“Any effort to appease a handful of vocal extremists backfired and offended millions of fair-minded consumers instead.
We have asked that Ford repudiate its relationship with this extremist group, reinstate its advertising of Jaguar and Land Rover, and continue investing in organizations working for equality.
At a time when corporate America leads on fairness, we hope Ford will shift back into drive.”
Tangentially, do you find the HRC's suggestion that corporate America is leading our country towards(?) "fairness" as chilling as I do? [aside to HRC: check out Wal-Monster's atrocious treatment of it's workers before you go lauding genericamerica's munificence]. Shudder.
